Our Story

est. 2022

What was once just an idea, turned into pages of inspirational jot notes, turned into a list of tangible action steps, turned into taking action of the steps, turned into epic land share opportunities, heart-centred program creation, multiple location operations, turned into to community connections and turned into what we now know to be CHILD OF THE WILD, a program that our local community has grown to LOVE.

Child Led

We believe that children are our greatest teachers and that this is fostered when they are given the time, space, and permission to be seen, heard, and fully expressed. By empowering them to take the lead in their own learning and exploration, we believe we are supporting them to create a sense of agency, autonomy, and self-trust.

Our child-led approach nurtures creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving, allowing children to unfold at their own pace and blossom into who they desire to be.

Nature Infused

Nature, another great and wise teacher of ours.

We believe that the natural rhythms, patterns, and wonders of the wild hold teachings and ancient wisdoms that are essential to our growth and development. This is why we are a nature based program and why we immerse children in its wonders for the entirety of our days together.

By doing so, we allow children to develop a deep connection with the natural world around them which always fosters a sense of awe, curiosity, and desire to steward and caretake the lands around them. As they explore and learn from nature, they cultivate essential skills and develop a profound appreciation for the interconnectedness of all living things.

Spiritually Guided

We welcome ALL individuals, regardless of their spiritual background or beliefs. We believe that every child has a unique connection to the world around them, and we strive to nurture this connection through our spiritually guided approach.

We encourage children to tap into their felt senses, exploring the intersection of the seen and unseen, the tangible and intangible. By acknowledging and honouring the mysteries of life, we foster a sense of awe, curiosity, and reverence for the world and its many wonders.

Our spiritually guided component invites children to ask questions, seek answers, and embrace the unknown. We believe that the journey of self-discovery and exploration is essential to cultivating empathy, compassion, and understanding – values that guide us in our relationships with others, in our programs and beyond.

Child of the Wild

*Private* Nature School

An exciting announcement and update from Child of the Wilds PrinciPAL, Rebecca Seabrook

"...In a split second Child of the Wild went from an alternative nature based program to a Private School… a PRIVATE SCHOOL!

 So what does this mean?

Well, it means everything.

And it means nothing..."

"My kids, 4 and 7, have gone to Child of the Wild in both the Cobourg and Brighton locations, for summer/fall/winter/spring sessions, and loved each one. Both kids are shy, and in particular my youngest had not spent much time away from me. Bec was accommodating in allowing me to stay with my youngest at first, very gradually transitioning to leaving him for the day. They’ve blossomed in the small group setting and become more confident. Bec and the other teachers are so good at knowing each child and ensuring inclusivity in play based nature learning. They’ve both enjoyed getting messy and come home happy, tired, and with lots of stories to share."
