2025 Fall Themes:
WEEK 1: Fall Festival & Equinox Celebration
Alongside our new session beginning, so does a new season; fall. This week we will be fostering new connections and group dynamics while celebrating festively as we learn about and celebrate the Fall Equinox.
WEEK 2: Together on Turtle Island
This week our newly formed groups will continue deepening in relationship with one another, as well as the land. For National Truth & Reconciliation Day we will engage in storytelling, activities and discussion that promote awareness, understanding and respect.
WEEK 3: Beaver Pond *Hands On* Study(Field Trip)
All program locations (Brighton, Cavan & Cobourg) will come together this week for an epic field trip to the Ganaraska Forest! This has become tradition and we are so excited to be guided through the Beaver Pond Study this time. Rumor has it that the fall is the BEST time for this program as pond life is at its peak!
WEEK 4: Natures Palette: Fall into Colour
With the fall colours being in full force this week, we will immerse ourselves in the vibrant colours of fall, exploring nature’s palette through nature-inspired art and science focused discussions as we learn about ‘how and why’ this happens.
WEEK 5: Harvest Hooray: Abundance & Appreciation (Thanksgiving)
This has to be one of our favourite weeks of the year, nothing beats Thanksgiving in the forest! The vibe: fire roaring, food sharing, song singing, gratitude giving, heart warming… the most sacred and special moments will transpire and everyone is sure to leave this week feeling extra warm and fuzzy.
WEEK 6: Pumpkin Palooza (Field Trip)
Another fall field trip tradition brings all our program locations (Brighton, Cavan & Cobourg) together for a festive day Vanderview Farms! Here we take on a themed corn maze, engage in festive activities, choose the perfect pumpkins for the following week and enjoy a large picnic and group games that deepen the cross-program connections made at the Ganaraska Forest in week 3!
WEEK 7: Ancestor Adventure: The Magic of Remembering (Samhain / Halloween)
This week, we will celebrate Samhain to begin our day, an ancient Gaelic festival that invites us to honour our ancestors and the cycle of life. In the afternoon we will celebrate Halloween with pumpkin carving, a seed roast and costume dance party!
WEEK 8: Migration Marvels
As winter nears, we will look through the lens of the many animals local to us and the journey they have ahead of them as they begin migrating south for the winter months.
WEEK 9: Fascinating Fires: Charcoal Pencils & Flame Inspired Creations
As the cold sets in, the warmth of the fire will nourish us throughout our last weeks of the session. This week we will work together to collect and widdle sticks that our fire will then transform into charcoal pencils for our flame inspired creations.
WEEK 10: Campfire Shares: Storytelling & Cacao
Another fire focused week, except this time we will be sharing stories and talent show performances in its presence along with a gratitude infused pot of cacao that we will make together over the fire.
WEEK 11: Winter Wonderland Preparedness & Hibernation
In preparation for winter, we will explore the wonders of hibernation, learn about animal adaptations, and discover ways to cozy up and thrive during the colder months.. for us humans too!
WEEK 12: SNOW Much Fun! Session Closure & Celebration
In reflection and celebration, we will wrap up our fall session with winter-themed fun, share reflections from our weeks together, and cherish the connections we've made through a day of child-led inspired activities and the sharing of handmade heart gifts… Secret Santa style!
